Checklist

Arrival

1. Key lock box: We are using Nest digital door locks.  We will have provided you with a passcode to enter the house.  Please just press the Yale button, enter your code and press the check button.  When you leave the house, please press the Yale button to lock the door behind you.

2. Garage: There is a garage door opener hanging on a wall rack inside the front door; be sure to return it when you leave.  Please look at the winter instructions in regards to parking in the driveway.

3. Water:  Ideally, you will not need to turn on or off the water – we have installed a Phyn smart water valve.  But, if necessary, to turn on the water please:

  • Enter the crawlspace using the small, half-height door in the downstairs room. With the door open facing into the crawlspace, there is a light switch on the left inside door frame.
  • First check that the main water shut off valve in the far right hand corner of the crawlspace (T-handle sticking out from a blue plastic pipe) is turned to left and lines up with the open markings. Turn it a quarter turn counter-clockwise.
  • Second, look at the black box attached to pipe coming out of the ground next to the T-handle.  If a light isn’t on, push the blue button on top.  If you see blue lights moving the length of the valve, it is on and working properly.  If you see a red line in the middle (and the bottom is blue), please push the blue button for 3 seconds until you hear the valve open.

Water Heater: We have switched to using a tankless water heater and you should not adjust the settings or turn it off.

4. Heat: Turn up thermostat (by the kitchen table on the main level) by (i) pressing the thermostat ring twice to bring up the icons, (ii) turn the ring to the top left icon and pressing and (iii) selecting the option to heat. The thermostat is programmed to cycle warmer in the morning and evening, cooler during the day and at night. You can override the current cycle’s setting by rotating the ring.

Departure

1. Cleaning: We are contracted with a cleaning service, but please leave the house clean when you depart.  Please place all of the dirty linen in washroom and start one wash cycle of towels when you leave.  If you will not have time to start a dry cycle, please just leave the dirty laundry in the laundry room.  Please wash all pots and pans and put all dirty dishes into the dishwasher and begin cleaning cycle.  If you can get through more than one load, please leave the clean (unfolded is ok) items on top of the dryer or bed with a note that says CLEAN.  Please do not leave anything wet in the washer.

2. Water:  Please do not turn off the water unless we’ve asked you to explicitly – typically the cleaners will arrive within a day and turn off after cleaning.

3. Heating: Please set the Nest thermostat to Eco Mode (i) pressing the thermostat ring twice to bring up the icons, (ii) turning the ring to the top icon of a leaf and pressing and (iii) selecting the option to start Eco mode.

4.  Lighting: Please ensure that all lights on the property are off.  In particular, make sure the outdoor lights are off (this can be difficult due to the fact that the front yard lights automatically turn off during the day – please try to turn off any outdoor lights before going to bed on your last night to prevent this from happening).

5.  Garbage: Please remove all garbage from the house and place in the bear box.

6.  Lock up: Please close all blinds, ensure all windows and doors, including the garage door, are locked.

7.  Leave House Items: Ensure that you not taken, and left in the appropriate place, any of the following:

  • Bear box key, garage door opener and Tahoe Donner member passes – place on the wall rack by the front door
