Grocery stores:
- There is a small market in Tahoe Donner next to the Trout Creek Recreation Area (take Hansel Ave to Northwoods, turn right. It will be on your left past the Lodge).
- Safeway is at the corner of Donner Pass Rd and Hwy 89-S (take Hansel Ave to Northwoods, turn left down the hill to Donner Pass Rd, turn left. Safeway is on the left at the traffic light).
- SaveMart is off Hwy 89-S on the south side of I-80 (follow direction to Safeway and turn right at the light at Hwy 89-S; cross under I-80 and turn right onto Deerfield drive and left into SaveMart shopping center).
Great morning options:
- Wild Cherries coffee shop (and free WiFi) is on the right hand side of Donner Pass Rd just before the Safeway.
- Coffebar downtown on Jibboom St is pretty good as well.
- Squeeze In is in downtown historic Truckee and our standard breakfast joint.
Tahoe Donner dining: There are two neighborhood restaurants to satisfy your appetite. In a beautiful setting amongst towering pines, The Lodge offers a classic bistro-style menu, with French and Pacific Rim influences, with nightly specials and entrées ranging from $9 to $30. Pizza On The Hill offers a family- and dog-friendly atmosphere with great pizza & seasonal ingredients, as well as rotisserie chicken, tri-tip, quesadillas and burritos.
Truckee dining: The town of Truckee has a number of terrific restaurants (be warned weekend nights during ski season are very busy and require reservations—preferably days before). Our favorites are:
- Pianeta Ristorante – Italian cuisine in downtown Truckee, by Dragonfly
- Jax on the Tracks – diner with good breakfast and dinner
