Grocery stores:

  1. There is a small market in Tahoe Donner next to the Trout Creek Recreation Area (take Hansel Ave to Northwoods, turn right.  It will be on your left past the Lodge).
  2. Safeway is at the corner of Donner Pass Rd and Hwy 89-S (take Hansel Ave to Northwoods, turn left down the hill to Donner Pass Rd, turn left. Safeway is on the left at the traffic light).
  3. SaveMart is off Hwy 89-S on the south side of I-80 (follow direction to Safeway and turn right at the light at Hwy 89-S; cross under I-80 and turn right onto Deerfield drive and left into SaveMart shopping center).

Great morning options:

  1. Wild Cherries coffee shop (and free WiFi) is on the right hand side of Donner Pass Rd just before the Safeway.
  2. Coffebar downtown on Jibboom St is pretty good as well.
  3. Squeeze In is in downtown historic Truckee and our standard breakfast joint.

Tahoe Donner dining: There are two neighborhood restaurants to satisfy your appetite. In a beautiful setting amongst towering pines, The Lodge offers a classic bistro-style menu, with French and Pacific Rim influences, with nightly specials and entrées ranging from $9 to $30. Pizza On The Hill offers a family- and dog-friendly atmosphere with great pizza & seasonal ingredients, as well as rotisserie chicken, tri-tip, quesadillas and burritos.

Truckee dining: The town of Truckee has a number of terrific restaurants (be warned weekend nights during ski season are very busy and require reservations—preferably days before). Our favorites are:

  1. Pianeta Ristorante – Italian cuisine in downtown Truckee, by Dragonfly
  2. Jax on the Tracks – diner with good breakfast and dinner
